- How did you get into graphic design?
I was born in Batuan village – Bali, where this village is known as the home of all kinds of art- from dance & traditional painting to sculpture & carving. I know art from my family – my uncle is a ceramic painter and my father is a wood carver.
I majored in multimedia at a vocational high school and became really interested in graphic design. After graduating in 2015, I worked at a printing company in Bali as a graphic designer, and it was in 2018 that I decided to resign to become a freelancer as an Illustrator / graphic designer.
- What is your inspiration for your designs?
I'm very interested in vintage 70s design and ephemera style. I have a collection of 70's art books that my uncle gave me, including Hawaiian, ephemera books, and wildlife books. Most of my inspiration comes from 70s hotel labels, patches and posters and I combine them with my style. I call it modern vintage style.
- What's the best advice you can give to a fellow artist about communication and collaboration with other brands?
I myself started collaborating in 2023 with several brands after 5 years as an illustrator. It turns out that collaboration is more fun than just selling designs. So start collaborating with any brand that you think can present your design well in a product.
- What's your favorite part about creating designs for brands?
When brainstorming and turning these ideas into designs that attract attention. And the plus point is that the product/design has received a good response from the public.
- What are your top 3 favorite artists and brands out there right now?
I'm a fan of several illustrators. So here I can only mention 3 options, so I chose Alana Louise, Young Jerks, Neighborhood Studio.
- What are some tips and tricks you have to deal with stress?
If I'm stuck/stressed, I usually go out on my vintage Vespa and hang out with my friends while drinking a few cans of beer.
