Where do you tattoo?
I tattoo with the lovely people at Three Kings LA.
What’s your SIDE HUSTLE?
Murals, merch, and lately I’ve put together a thing called FLASH FRIENDS, collectible tattoo flash trading cards!
How’d you get into your side hustle?
I’ve been doing this sort of stuff even before my apprenticeship. I just like making cool things. Tattooing and my art have always been in the same vehicle!
How do you find time to work on your side hustle after tattooing/drawing/running Social media and all the other tasks we have as tattooers?
It all goes hand in hand, so I don’t ever feel like I’m making time for certain things as much as I’m just going about my normal routine. I wake up and either draw or work on some projects, go do some tattoos, come home and relax, and then start it over the next day!
You think it’s important for tattooers to have other creative outlets?
I think it might be one of the most important things you can do as a tattooer, aside from practicing your craft of course. When being creative is your job, burnout becomes an unavoidable issue. It’s not if it will happen, but when. And when you rely on tattooing to make your money that can be dangerous or at the very least make you feel disenchanted with creating in general. So having these side projects allows us to switch things up and keep everything fresh. Burnout can be hell and I don’t wish that upon anyone!
Do you have a creative outlet that you’d rather not turn into a hustle? Something just for YOU that helps you escape or relax?
I’ve been making music since I was young but I don’t think I’d be cut out for that industry. It’s nice to just keep that for me!
Do you have a bigger picture or a vision of where your side hustle could take you?
Oh man, a boy can dream. As far as my art goes, I try to keep those dreams pretty loose and just go where life takes me. As far as Flash Friends, I’d be STOKED for them to be a staple in the tattoo community. It’s my love letter to tattooing and I hope it introduces people to artists they’ve never seen before.
Any Advice for Tattooers that are interested in building up a new SIDE HUSTLE?
Whatever you wanna do, do it every day. It’s a lot of work but you’ll thank yourself for it and find that it helps your tattooing in more ways than you thought possible!
Shoutouts?
Big shoutout to my friend Kal Morrison, owner of 3KLA, for always being and inspiration and a helping hand in my endeavors. Oh, and my mom!
Inspirational or funny Quotes?
“Take it easy, but take it” - Woody Guthrie
Random knowledge drops/closing statements?
Embrace being weird. Don’t make things to impress others, only yourself. And encourage your peers. In my opinion, those are the keys to a healthy career :)
