Is Cringe Crashing The Tattoo Artist Industry? The New Tattoo Attitude.
Cringe Is The Price Of Admission
This episode is about that gross, exposed feeling you get when you post something new and immediately want to delete it. Every tattooer who built a real following went through it. They posted the weird video anyway. They talked about stuff that mattered to them even when their voice sounded off and their face looked funny on camera. That feeling never fully goes away, it just gets easier to walk through.
We also get into thick skin, and why that term gets misunderstood constantly. It's not about turning into a robot who doesn't feel anything when someone trashes your work in the comments. It's about letting the sting happen for a second and then moving forward without it running your whole week. There's a huge gap between someone saying 'that's bad' just to knock you down and someone breaking down why a tattoo doesn't work and what would make it better. One of those is noise. The other is gold.
And we get into why chasing the algorithm is a dead end. Dancing in reels because it gets views, showing your face because the app rewards it, copying whatever trend is hot this month, none of that builds a career that lasts. Your actual voice comes from your style, your weird interests, the way you see tattooing and life outside the shop. Trends rotate every six months. Your personality doesn't. We also talk about protecting your body and your mind so you're still doing this twenty years from now instead of burning out at year seven. Full conversation is up on YouTube, Apple, and Spotify.

00:00:00:02 - 00:00:13:04 Jonathan Penchoff / Crocodile Jackson If you're doing something that is kind of weird or whatever, but you're doing it because it's genuinely fun and it's something you like and who cares? I think authenticity is the key to not being cringe anymore. Just do it. 00:00:13:06 - 00:00:14:13 Lettie Lynch Cringe is to be free. 00:00:14:15 - 00:00:16:22 Austin Spencer Oh, so. 00:00:17:00 - 00:00:17:15 Lettie Lynch Do it that way. 00:00:17:15 - 00:00:41:12 Austin Spencer You might drop next right now. Today we're recording live in front of the crowd at Sessions Tattoo Edu in Austin, Texas.
This is a first time for us. We're pretty pumped. We've got some real good buds here. Letty Lynch, my homie, she tattoos out of Reno, Nevada, and my buddy Crocodile Jackson. He tattoos out of Austin, Texas here. 00:00:41:12 - 00:00:51:04 Austin Spencer And my other buddy Jonathan Pinch of that's a lot of buddies were so pumped. Be here and thank you guys for joining us. You don't really show your face at all on social media.
00:00:51:06 - 00:00:52:18 Lettie Lynch Yeah. I didn't know what you looked like. 00:00:52:19 - 00:01:16:02 Austin Spencer I don't know, I don't have anything against it. I'm an artist and I want that to show up first. I'm a tattoo or not a content creator, so I just don't do it. I would say if you're finding your voice, I think you find that outside of social media. First we talk about pushing through cringe, finding your voice, building real relationships, and what it takes to stay healthy long enough to keep tattooing for the rest of your days. 00:01:16:04 - 00:01:28:13 Austin Spencer I'm Austin Spencer, and this is support.
Your local tattoo are fun facts about everybody. Real quick, we're going to run through these. Miss Lettie Lynch has broken her tooth twice eating peanut butter. Peanut? Did I say it? 00:01:28:13 - 00:01:30:06 Lettie Lynch Butter. Butter. 00:01:30:08 - 00:01:37:23 Austin Spencer Mr. Crocodile Jackson, guess who would guess what?
His dad's name is? Michael Jackson. He's. 00:01:38:01 - 00:01:59:12 Austin Spencer Why was that the one? I don't know, I just remember you pointing out that. And I just thought it was fucking funny. That's awesome. Yeah, you should know.
Oh, old Jonathan pinch off. He is known for having three personalities. One a golfer, one a cowboy, and one a tattoo. Were the Cowboys newest, newest. Still trying it on I like it, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:01:59:14 - 00:02:31:15 Austin Spencer So fucking let's get going here. We're going to talk about some weird stuff. We're gonna hopefully have a good time and just maintain a positive attitude and talk about some weird shit, maybe.
And I'd say, number one, we're going to jump right into it. If you guys saw I posted a video about this this week, like some of the things we go through as artists and tattoos and creatives like cringe being one of them, I'm personally kind of going through and learning how to attempt to try to speak on the internet, through the video camera shit like that. 00:02:31:16 - 00:02:53:03 Austin Spencer It feels super cringey. Some people are fantastic at it and hyper successful. I am just learning. So I personally was going through that and I was like, I wonder if if anybody else is like developed this feeling of cringe in their career or, you know, internally, is there any time that you guys can think of that you've worked through this too? 00:02:53:04 - 00:03:00:10 Austin Spencer Yeah, I'm going to throw it out there.
Yeah, yeah. Every day, every day it doesn't go away and it shouldn't go away. 00:03:00:10 - 00:03:14:08 Crocodile Jackson I think when it goes away, you should try to be feel it again at some point. I think that way through that the way through cringe is how you find style or new excitement or whatever. 00:03:14:10 - 00:03:22:12 Austin Spencer Yeah. Yeah. Discomfort for sure, like pushes you forward as an artist anyway. As a human, I think discomfort generally pushes people.
00:03:22:14 - 00:03:46:16 Lettie Lynch Yeah. I also think that it's super subjective and like some stuff, like everything could be cringe to like anybody. And so like just because like other people don't like it doesn't mean like it's not going to push you forward somehow and like, help you kind of broaden your horizons. And like sometimes pushing through those moments is going to bring you new opportunities and that you wouldn't have, like, had otherwise. 00:03:46:17 - 00:04:05:20 Austin Spencer Quick pause to the tattoo artists out there actually watching and listening. You know those days when the sessions flow in, the client is settled in, everything just feels dialed in. That's the kind of day we all want. A big part of that comes down to having supplies.
You're not second guessing. That's our goal at Maverick Supply Co. Make it easier for artists to get quality cartridges, gear and shop essentials that are built to be reliable. 00:04:05:20 - 00:04:25:22 Austin Spencer So if your setup is due for a bit of a refresh, scan the QR code on the screen or head to the link in the show notes and use code SYLT for 10% off. Now back to the show. You know, I think we're all a little afraid of like what people say when we put shit out there on the internet and what we've been putting out there, if it gets you a little bit of negative there. 00:04:26:00 - 00:04:41:23 Austin Spencer But I've also had so much positive, so much more, and the people that I actually respect and care about are the ones that have been the most kind.
Hopefully not just saying it to be nice, but it's it feels good and it's open up opportunities. And the whole reason I even like I was super cringey starting this podcast. 00:04:42:00 - 00:04:59:01 Austin Spencer Like everybody's got a full cast now and whatever, but like, I don't know, I just kind of founded personally. Interesting to start talking to all my friends and about what we're passionate about. And all my friends happened to be tattoos. So let's let's run with it. And it's opened up opportunities. The whole reason why I'm even here is because I started it and Squier reached out.
00:04:59:06 - 00:05:08:01 Austin Spencer So if I didn't work through that fucking cringe and worked through that gross feeling, that and staring at yourself and like, listening to yourself is gross. Like, we all fucking hate that. I think. 00:05:08:01 - 00:05:09:04 Lettie Lynch That's like purgatory. 00:05:09:05 - 00:05:16:06 Austin Spencer It is. It's fucking. It sucks man. But like, I don't know, you just kind of learned how to get through it and yeah, move on.
00:05:16:06 - 00:05:19:00 Crocodile Jackson I know I think it's only cringe until it works. 00:05:19:02 - 00:05:19:15 Austin Spencer Yeah, I love. 00:05:19:15 - 00:05:46:11 Crocodile Jackson That thing. You just do it. And I also feel like nowadays, more than ever, like we are focusing on cringe like that. I don't remember ten years ago us talking about or the word cringe being used as much as it is now. Yeah. And so I'm like that there's like a almost like a hypersensitivity to being cringe, which I think could push a lot of people into feeling more, being more a cool guy, whatever that means.
00:05:46:13 - 00:05:53:04 Crocodile Jackson And I don't think that's it's not always the way sometimes you might be cool guy, that's fine. Sometimes you might be cringe guy. 00:05:53:08 - 00:06:08:00 Austin Spencer Like, terrified to break out of the mold and like what your peers think you're supposed to do. And I've found that as an artist in general, like I, I always just I had this feeling of, this is how I want to express myself, this is how I want to draw. And I felt bad for doing it because it was different. 00:06:08:00 - 00:06:20:04 Austin Spencer And I got, you know, you got made fun of and fucking. It's weird how that feeling doesn't go away even if you get older. I, I'm pretty fucking old.
And still every once in a while I'm like, I mean, that wasn't very nice, you know, like he should have said. That kind of hurt my feelings, motherfucker. 00:06:20:04 - 00:06:20:10 Crocodile Jackson But I. 00:06:20:10 - 00:06:38:23 Jonathan Penchoff Was kind of saying to you the other day that I think, like, the context of what you're doing makes something cringe or not cringe to like, if you're doing something that, like, is kind of weird or whatever, but you're doing it because it's like genuinely fun and it's something you like, and who cares if like if you're recreating someone else's TikTok video because you saw them do it? 00:06:38:23 - 00:06:45:05 Jonathan Penchoff Well, that feels like a little cringe to me. But once again, if it's fun for you.
Who cares? Yeah, that's. 00:06:45:06 - 00:06:53:06 Austin Spencer I liked how you brought up a cringe, was talking with your hands, and it made me laugh because I'm like, I get nervous and I talk with my fucking hands, and I feel like I don't know what. 00:06:53:06 - 00:06:53:13 Jonathan Penchoff To do. 00:06:53:13 - 00:06:54:17 Austin Spencer With my fucking hands. 00:06:54:19 - 00:06:57:15 Jonathan Penchoff I see videos of people doing this all the time. I'm like, oh fuck. 00:06:57:18 - 00:06:58:19 Austin Spencer It's like overstimulating.
00:06:58:20 - 00:07:09:12 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah, yeah. But like, I understand what's happening. So like, I don't it's not really cringey, but for some reason my brain is just like, stop pushing at me right now. Yeah. You know. 00:07:09:14 - 00:07:16:11 Crocodile Jackson Yeah, I think I think you're right. I think authenticity is the key to not being cringe anymore. Just do it.
00:07:16:12 - 00:07:18:06 Lettie Lynch Every cringe is to be free. 00:07:18:08 - 00:07:19:04 Crocodile Jackson Oh. 00:07:19:06 - 00:07:21:08 Lettie Lynch That's do it that way. 00:07:21:08 - 00:07:46:10 Austin Spencer You might drop next subject. Right now. Yeah. You guys are fun. I'm excited to be up here with you guys.
It's we're talking about making fast friends and and over the years in tattooing, I feel like it was so such a cool thing. And doing conventions and stuff. We all have so much in common. And it's fun. How many friends I made just out of like one night out at a convention and then kept in touch with them for the last ten years or more. 00:07:46:15 - 00:08:04:18 Austin Spencer You know, that kind of like rolls into like six skin for me personally. Like thick skin is something that I developed through tattooing. I remember putting all of my heart and soul into my portfolio and putting my portfolio out there and the clients.
This is back when we used to print out pictures and put them in. I don't know if anybody still does that, but you print them out and then you just walk. 00:08:04:20 - 00:08:11:08 Austin Spencer Somebody walks in and they just look at your whole fucking body. You work like this and they're like, where's the fucking ribbons or something? You know? 00:08:11:09 - 00:08:12:05 Lettie Lynch You're like. 00:08:12:07 - 00:08:26:05 Austin Spencer Damn, dude. I mean, we could talk a little more if you maybe take a little more time, we could work through this and try.
I could try to sell you something, but, did thick skin, like, come naturally to you, or did. Is this something that tattooing taught you? 00:08:26:06 - 00:08:46:08 Lettie Lynch I grew up playing sports, so I feel like it kind of helps you develop thick skin. But sometimes I'm a little sensitive and I can still have an issue with, like, critiques sometimes. And I'm trying to get I feel like it's getting better as I get older, but sometimes when I get a critique, it feels like someone's telling me they want me dead in a ditch and they hate my guts. 00:08:46:08 - 00:08:50:05 Lettie Lynch So yeah, yeah, but it gets better. 00:08:50:07 - 00:09:11:22 Crocodile Jackson Yeah, I don't, I, I do not have thick skin. I still don't have six skin.
I never did. The shops that I like grew up tattooing and extra hated. What I was doing is a bunch of biker dudes. And so me doing this stuff, they I just got roasted endlessly. But it, it does kind of push you into the point of like, like I don't care anymore. 00:09:11:23 - 00:09:27:21 Crocodile Jackson I think, I think you just have to not want to care and just keep pushing through it. If you like doing it. It's the same thing of what we were talking about with cringe.
But I think you have to learn to process through it faster and faster, because it's not about like not getting your feelings hurt, I think. 00:09:27:22 - 00:09:36:06 Crocodile Jackson I think it should be about like feeling that and then moving on as quickly as possible, because if not, it'll ruin you. 00:09:36:08 - 00:09:58:21 Jonathan Penchoff I'm just gonna quote latte and say to a, to have thick skin is to be free. I grew up in like, the hardcore and like metal world and like, all my friends are assholes. So I think like, you know, back when Myspace was a thing I remember having, I like, just started tattooing and I posted a picture I was pretty proud of at the time, and it was a a peacock feather on a foot. 00:09:58:21 - 00:10:13:19 Jonathan Penchoff And at the time you could comment with another picture.
I don't know if you can. Still, I don't know if Myspace is. I don't think it is, but I posted it and I was like, fuck yeah, dude, I nailed that shit. And one of my asshole friends, no words, just posted a really good version of what I did. 00:10:13:20 - 00:10:23:11 Jonathan Penchoff Oh, I'm the other tattoo. Or who did a peacock feather on a foot and know where. It's not like, okay, I guess I'll get better. So yeah.
00:10:23:13 - 00:10:25:19 Crocodile Jackson You remembered it for the rest of your life. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:10:25:21 - 00:10:27:08 Jonathan Penchoff Sure did. I'm still haunted. 00:10:27:14 - 00:10:30:13 Crocodile Jackson A little North Star for you. Yeah. 00:10:30:15 - 00:10:53:16 Austin Spencer That was a mic drop on his part, so she. Let's see.
Finding your voice in social media. We're kind of back on this. Like, I don't know if everybody else is going through this, but I kind of feel like we're all now in this world where we essentially feel like we now have to just be more present, as on video and like, talk or fucking dance or do something. 00:10:53:18 - 00:11:06:11 Austin Spencer Have you, like, adapted and figured out a way to try to find your voice like you do? Great. Like you've thrown some videos out there, you singing and stuff, and Jonathan, you never seem fucking shy. Like, yeah. 00:11:06:13 - 00:11:26:06 Lettie Lynch I don't know.
I just like, I started putting reels on Instagram when it was like first rolling out and they were like doing really well. And so I feel like I learned how to do it pretty quick, but I kind of lean into stuff that's just more funny because that's fun to me. I don't like doing like, there's so much stuff I don't want to do, like with reels, and I just like, won't. 00:11:26:08 - 00:11:47:15 Lettie Lynch But I feel like when you're trying to find your voice through it, you just have to like. Like there's a way to do it without, like, feeling like if a fucking idiot. And, like, you don't have to, like, get up and, like, lip sync stuff or do that, like, you could make reels that are just like you tattooing and showing the tattoo or like, whatever you're comfortable with and that that's still content and it'll it'll do something for you, you know.
00:11:47:17 - 00:11:53:10 Lettie Lynch But I just like to lean into the funny stuff because I am a goober. Yeah. And it's fun. 00:11:53:12 - 00:11:57:18 Austin Spencer Like crocodile, you don't really show your face at all on social media. 00:11:57:20 - 00:11:59:11 Lettie Lynch Yeah. I didn't know what you looked like and. 00:11:59:12 - 00:12:12:23 Austin Spencer Yeah. Yeah, but you do sick.
Honestly, you do such a great job, though. I think finding your. You found your voice, like, through your illustrations and your, you do voiceovers and you have a fantastic voice, by the way. Thank you very, very. 00:12:13:01 - 00:12:13:12 Crocodile Jackson For radio. 00:12:13:13 - 00:12:20:11 Austin Spencer Yeah. Yeah, yeah. But I think you've done a great job at it.
You do you feel the need to start showing your face at all or. 00:12:20:14 - 00:12:40:08 Crocodile Jackson I think I do sometimes and I just don't, I don't know, I don't know what I don't have anything against it. I just am like, I'm an artist. And I want that to show up first. So everything else past that, it's like when you follow someone, you sign up for their Patreon. That's like extra content. You know what I mean? 00:12:40:09 - 00:13:04:15 Crocodile Jackson Yeah, that's like, that's not that.
It's just like, that's the extra for the for the people that want to see that at all. But I, I would say if you're for finding your voice, I think you find that outside of a social media first, like really locked down what you want to show as your personality and then and then bring it to social media. 00:13:04:18 - 00:13:24:17 Crocodile Jackson And I think you'd find a more unique version of that than, than just trying to emulate what everyone else is doing and what's the what's the right way to post on Instagram? What's the right kind of videos? I think, I mean, it's like what you said, just just goober shit and you'd be yourself. 00:13:24:18 - 00:13:35:12 Lettie Lynch Yeah. That's like the biggest thing is being yourself is like. Like, I can't imagine trying to film videos and trying to, like, put out some different type of persona because it's just not me.
I don't know. 00:13:35:14 - 00:13:56:16 Austin Spencer Yeah, it's honestly not much different at all than just being who you are in real life in this fucking room. If we're acting a certain way, how do we figure out how to translate that? Or if we have something that we're passionate about, something that we want to say, questions to ask, I don't know. Just if you figure out you're playing with it and figure out how to throw it out there, it seems to seems to work. 00:13:56:18 - 00:14:00:11 Austin Spencer And no one gives you a hard time. It's not fucking cringey if you're just being yourself. 00:14:00:14 - 00:14:01:09 Lettie Lynch Yeah.
00:14:01:11 - 00:14:18:10 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah, but I'm the opposite of this in real life, actually. Like, if I'm not here, I don't talk to people for like weeks on end. I talk to animals and hang out quietly, like, but I know when to turn it on for this, which is funny because I don't. For Instagram. I think I've posted three tattoos in the last three years. 00:14:18:11 - 00:14:24:05 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah, like I just kind of gave up on that and I'm a tattoo or not a content creator, so I just don't do it. 00:14:24:06 - 00:14:30:17 Crocodile Jackson How does that because you've been doing this for you've been on Instagram for for so long. Yeah, for.
00:14:30:17 - 00:14:34:15 Jonathan Penchoff So long. Back when it was just for fun. 00:14:34:16 - 00:14:41:12 Crocodile Jackson But how do you feel like it's changed for you? Like how how have you adapt? Because you just said that you you're like, I've all but given up on. 00:14:41:13 - 00:15:03:15 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah. Oh I mean like my, my inquiries are like tremendously lower like I. Yeah.
Yeah. And you know, but it's also because back in the day, you know, will be the old heads being like back when I had answer you could post that like, hey, I'm going to Florida and you'd have an email full of things. And now it's like, unless you buy a targeted ad for Florida, how many people actually see that? 00:15:03:16 - 00:15:24:08 Jonathan Penchoff You know, and it's like, I find that if it's stupid, I don't want to post my face necessarily. But if I post a face in my story, it's like, yeah, you got 4000 views on that. If I post just a tattoo with nothing, it's like maybe a thousand, maybe, probably not even, you know. So it's like, I don't know, it just comes to, to me it's like, how much do you want to play their game? 00:15:24:09 - 00:15:35:22 Jonathan Penchoff I'm a tattoo or not.
I'm not a content creator, you know? So it's like I kind of just take it as it is and like, yeah, my I have less emails, but whatever. It's all. 00:15:36:00 - 00:15:59:03 Crocodile Jackson It's also a wave right now. Like what the this iteration of being a tattoo or online has changed since when I first started. Right. And it will change again. And you may not fit your voice may not fit into this right now.
Just hang on. Pay your pay your bills, and whenever it feels right for you, you can hop in on another wave that will make more sense to you. 00:15:59:06 - 00:16:03:09 Crocodile Jackson It doesn't. You don't have to fit in all the time. Just make cool shit. 00:16:03:11 - 00:16:03:16 Lettie Lynch Yeah. 00:16:03:17 - 00:16:04:17 Crocodile Jackson That's our main goal. 00:16:04:18 - 00:16:24:21 Lettie Lynch Well, and sometimes like, not fitting in like that's going to go further than trying to do what everybody else is doing because people are going to see you doing like your own thing and they're going to be like, what the fuck?
No one else is doing this. And it's like, so cool and unique. And I like the way they that they filmed these things because no one else does it and or whatever it is, and people are going to want to follow you just because of that. 00:16:24:22 - 00:16:26:16 Austin Spencer Good job, good job. 00:16:26:21 - 00:16:27:08 Lettie Lynch Thanks, man. 00:16:27:09 - 00:16:47:06 Austin Spencer Come on, I like that. I guess that kind of brings me to this one too, is like push pushing through, like tattooing for me taught me how to fucking focus, first of all, because if you sit down with a client, you can't get up and go anywhere. I've got to start this project where I started and fucking finish it and not float around and jump around.
00:16:47:06 - 00:16:55:21 Austin Spencer But, is there any tools that you guys kind of pull on in your head to kind of just push through those difficult times, whether it's illustrations, tattooing, projects you're starting? 00:16:55:23 - 00:17:02:02 Crocodile Jackson No, sorry. I'm just thinking about it right now. Yeah, it made me nervous. The thing about really sucks pushing through. 00:17:02:02 - 00:17:04:09 Austin Spencer Its pushing through is the hardest man. And. 00:17:04:14 - 00:17:11:02 Crocodile Jackson But you have to do it.
Yeah, I think you just have to do it. You just have to try to finish a drawing or whatever. 00:17:11:02 - 00:17:19:06 Austin Spencer I think my dad yelling at me for some reason, like I don't like bringing. 00:17:19:08 - 00:17:37:09 Austin Spencer No, just like getting shit done. Like I kind of I've always got a hard time from my family for not focusing and finishing. I was 80, you know, the doctor said I did since I was a little kid, but I so I'm, I'm a late bloomer also. So I start a lot of projects and I don't finish them in later in life. 00:17:37:09 - 00:17:56:06 Austin Spencer I started them and I started to learn like I really need to complete this project.
So I feel good about myself and I can focus, and also started to learn how to filter out projects inside gig things and get to the fucking end. You don't have anybody yelling at you in your head. 00:17:56:08 - 00:17:58:12 Austin Spencer Don't make me. I don't have trauma. 00:17:58:14 - 00:17:59:09 Lettie Lynch No. 00:17:59:11 - 00:18:23:21 Crocodile Jackson I have, I just, I the way I know I can't do the mean coach in my head thing. Yeah, I'll kill myself. I think I. Do that, but I have to be nice to myself.
But, I have to try to. I just built a routine around drawing or or whatever. Art in general. You just build the routine in your day. 00:18:23:23 - 00:18:43:01 Crocodile Jackson I my like my thing is, I wake up every single day and it's the first thing I try to do besides, like, drink coffee as I just get up and I try to make something, just work on something for at least 30 minutes to an hour. Sometimes it goes way longer, sometimes it doesn't. And I feel like that helps me like push through and just finish things no matter what. 00:18:43:02 - 00:18:51:06 Crocodile Jackson Just because I'm this is my this is my job.
This is my job. I'm clocking in right now and also chunking stuff up. Like if it's a big project. 00:18:51:12 - 00:18:51:17 Austin Spencer Just. 00:18:51:17 - 00:18:52:00 Jonathan Penchoff Chunk. 00:18:52:01 - 00:18:56:15 Crocodile Jackson Like break it down into little pieces, like I'm gonna do this part and then tomorrow I'll do the next part. 00:18:56:15 - 00:18:58:13 Austin Spencer That elephant. One bite at a time.
00:18:58:19 - 00:19:00:05 Crocodile Jackson Yeah, yeah. 00:19:00:06 - 00:19:12:15 Austin Spencer Definitely not being mean to yourself. You know, I was so, like, straight up mean to myself for so many years and so hard on myself and just push me. It did push me through. But like, I finally did realize, like, all right, bro, you need a plan. 00:19:12:16 - 00:19:13:04 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah. 00:19:13:06 - 00:19:13:16 Crocodile Jackson Fuck. What are.
00:19:13:16 - 00:19:17:00 Austin Spencer You doing, dude? What do I do? I don't know when. What do you just do? 00:19:17:01 - 00:19:20:12 Crocodile Jackson Hot yoga? Yeah. Are you. So you're not mean to yourself anymore.
What are you doing? 00:19:20:13 - 00:19:21:04 Austin Spencer Yoga. 00:19:21:06 - 00:19:22:09 Crocodile Jackson Yeah. Yeah. 00:19:22:11 - 00:19:23:08 Austin Spencer Nice. Yeah. 00:19:23:09 - 00:19:24:04 Jonathan Penchoff We should all be. 00:19:24:04 - 00:19:48:18 Austin Spencer Doing that.
Yeah, we were just doing crow pose in here when you guys were in the nice. Yeah. It's taught me to, like, breathe through. I love the fact that they brought up the multiple presenters, brought up the breathing exercises. Because I actually used that to deal with my personal anxiety. And I've had to, like, literally leave the room in a tattoo before and go in the back kitchen and fucking breathe and just kind of focus, push through, you know? 00:19:48:18 - 00:19:55:14 Austin Spencer So yeah, breathing exercises are extremely helpful and cheap. Yeah, yeah.
00:19:55:14 - 00:19:56:13 Jonathan Penchoff Free actually. 00:19:56:13 - 00:19:57:12 Austin Spencer Yeah. 00:19:57:13 - 00:20:01:10 Crocodile Jackson I've done that. I've, I've had to leave during a tattoo before. After doing okay. 00:20:01:10 - 00:20:13:20 Austin Spencer Yeah. So crack was on my, on my podcast before and which we were really drunk in that episode. So don't don't just do that.
But yeah. Tell your story about your lack of being able to push through one time. Just one time. 00:20:13:21 - 00:20:40:15 Crocodile Jackson It was the one time I was it was during my apprenticeship and I this lady came in and she wanted like, like a dandelion, the classic, like, dandelion silhouette that turns into the birds. And it was on her shoulder right here. And I had no business tattooing this at this time. And I remember, like, getting, like a couple of lines in and everything was all fucked up, and I'm panicking, I'm sweating, and I'm freaking out. 00:20:40:21 - 00:20:59:02 Crocodile Jackson And I told the lady, I gotta go use the restroom, I'll be right back.
And I went to my mentor and I was like, you gotta finish this. I quit my job, fucking walked out the door. And I showed back up the next day and I was like, can I please come back? 00:20:59:04 - 00:21:00:18 Austin Spencer You did the George Costanza. 00:21:00:18 - 00:21:02:07 Jonathan Penchoff You were just like, nothing happened. 00:21:02:07 - 00:21:03:20 Austin Spencer You. Yeah. 00:21:03:21 - 00:21:05:10 Lettie Lynch So that's what you do is you quit.
00:21:05:11 - 00:21:06:10 Austin Spencer Yeah, yeah. 00:21:06:16 - 00:21:08:23 Crocodile Jackson It's okay to run away. 00:21:09:01 - 00:21:12:19 Austin Spencer That's just leave mentor. Dude. Because I think the first thing in my mouth is. 00:21:12:21 - 00:21:13:15 Crocodile Jackson Like. 00:21:13:16 - 00:21:15:18 Austin Spencer No way, man. 00:21:15:20 - 00:21:16:06 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah.
00:21:16:11 - 00:21:17:13 Crocodile Jackson He was so mad at me. 00:21:17:17 - 00:21:22:00 Austin Spencer God dang. How'd the come back? Yeah, that. 00:21:22:00 - 00:21:22:17 Lettie Lynch Was cool. And now you're. 00:21:22:17 - 00:21:23:11 Crocodile Jackson Here, and now. 00:21:23:11 - 00:21:24:10 Jonathan Penchoff I'm here.
00:21:24:12 - 00:21:28:18 Austin Spencer Well, thank you for pushing through and continuing on. 00:21:28:20 - 00:21:30:04 Jonathan Penchoff I don't push through it all. 00:21:30:05 - 00:21:32:07 Austin Spencer You don't know what I'm. 00:21:32:07 - 00:21:35:16 Jonathan Penchoff Supposed to be fun. So, like, if it's not fun for me, I don't chase. 00:21:35:17 - 00:21:36:09 Austin Spencer You're just. 00:21:36:11 - 00:21:38:01 Jonathan Penchoff I ride the wave, man. I'll chase the.
00:21:38:01 - 00:21:38:10 Austin Spencer Way that. 00:21:38:10 - 00:21:49:21 Jonathan Penchoff Is there. It's there. If it's not, I might like, do like what you said. Like 15 minutes in the morning until I see, like, something feeling good. And I start to chase it. But, like, if it ain't there, I'm not pushing it. 00:21:49:22 - 00:21:52:02 Crocodile Jackson I'm trying to be like you.
Really? 00:21:52:05 - 00:21:56:12 Jonathan Penchoff Well, move away from people. 00:21:56:14 - 00:22:16:18 Lettie Lynch I have this issue sometimes, but like, I have this thing where I can't relax until I'm done with whatever I'm doing. And so like, especially like drawing for clients, like I get home from tattooing and I like, eat dinner really fast, and then I sit down and draw like immediately. And I cannot, like, enjoy my night until the drawing is done. 00:22:16:18 - 00:22:20:12 Lettie Lynch So there's some I don't know, there's something going on up here that's just like, we just got to do it. 00:22:20:12 - 00:22:21:07 Austin Spencer But yeah. 00:22:21:07 - 00:22:27:04 Lettie Lynch That's great.
And then you can lay down. And so that's how I push through. I guess it's just like robotic almost. 00:22:27:05 - 00:22:29:13 Crocodile Jackson What do you do when you're struggling through a piece? 00:22:29:15 - 00:22:36:20 Lettie Lynch I usually get really upset and think about killing myself, but being mad. No. 00:22:36:21 - 00:22:37:10 Austin Spencer I. 00:22:37:12 - 00:22:54:22 Lettie Lynch All like it's so funny because I'll be like, oh, I just need like 20 minutes. I'm going to put my like, like, put my phone down and like, just like sit in quiet.
But literally it takes like 10s. And then I'm like, I've got it. And then I had just like moved through it. I don't know, it just comes really fast, but I just need like a breath for. 00:22:55:00 - 00:22:58:11 Crocodile Jackson I've been going on walks. I love. 00:22:58:13 - 00:22:59:22 Jonathan Penchoff Mental health. 00:23:00:00 - 00:23:00:22 Crocodile Jackson Mindy, Mindy.
00:23:00:23 - 00:23:01:09 Jonathan Penchoff Health law. 00:23:01:10 - 00:23:14:02 Crocodile Jackson Oh yeah. If I'm frustrated on a piece, I'll fucking just get up and walk. As soon as that frustration kicks in, I'm like, I fuck this and then I'll go on a walk. And almost every time, by the time I get back, I'm like, I get it, I know. 00:23:14:03 - 00:23:15:18 Lettie Lynch I get it, I'll just pet my dog. 00:23:15:19 - 00:23:18:13 Jonathan Penchoff I was just gonna say, have you ever heard of fucking dogs, dude? 00:23:18:15 - 00:23:22:13 Austin Spencer Oh, cool.
00:23:22:15 - 00:23:24:00 Jonathan Penchoff Ever. Whoever said that? 00:23:24:01 - 00:23:24:22 Austin Spencer You're very. 00:23:24:22 - 00:23:27:04 Jonathan Penchoff Cool to me now, 00:23:27:06 - 00:23:37:14 Austin Spencer I just yeah, I do the lonely walk. I guess I just walk by myself and. No fucking dog. A dog. Dude, that does make my walk sound pretty lame.
Now you are gonna love dogs. Yeah, yeah. 00:23:37:15 - 00:23:39:17 Lettie Lynch Have you heard about dogs. 00:23:39:19 - 00:23:56:22 Austin Spencer Dog before this next one I like outside of social media. Fucking fuck social media. Is there any other way to promote yourself as an artist, creative tattoo or golf these days? So community, go play golf. Yeah.
00:23:57:00 - 00:24:08:17 Lettie Lynch Okay. Yeah. Golf. No, I'm just, I feel like like there's so many ways to do it. I don't I don't do a lot of them, but like, people will, I. 00:24:08:17 - 00:24:10:08 Austin Spencer Just like. 00:24:10:10 - 00:24:32:10 Lettie Lynch I just see, like other artists like, do I love when artists put up, like, fliers around town with like, little rip off numbers? I think that's so sick.
They'll, like, put stickers at coffee shops or whatever. But also, just like you said earlier, you hate the word community, but like building community. And like especially yeah, you you hate. 00:24:32:12 - 00:24:34:03 Crocodile Jackson On this is out of context. 00:24:34:04 - 00:24:38:16 Austin Spencer You hate little dogs, don't you? Yeah. You hate dogs. Do I know someone who.
00:24:38:16 - 00:24:39:13 Crocodile Jackson Hates dog dogs? 00:24:39:14 - 00:24:40:03 Austin Spencer I also. 00:24:40:03 - 00:24:40:07 Lettie Lynch Know. 00:24:40:07 - 00:24:40:14 Austin Spencer Someone. 00:24:40:14 - 00:24:40:16 Lettie Lynch Who. 00:24:40:17 - 00:24:42:03 Austin Spencer Hates dogs. 00:24:42:05 - 00:24:43:08 Lettie Lynch Where is he at? 00:24:43:09 - 00:24:43:16 Austin Spencer No. 00:24:43:16 - 00:25:02:17 Crocodile Jackson I don't like the word the how much community is being used nowadays, but I do.
I, I was going to piggyback off of you and say community, like go out and hang out with people, go find your people, golf, do whatever, go build with other artists and hang out and do weird shit and everything else will just kind of like come into your orbit. 00:25:02:17 - 00:25:06:06 Crocodile Jackson You kind of want to just attract things via that way. 00:25:06:08 - 00:25:06:15 Austin Spencer We. 00:25:06:15 - 00:25:07:01 Crocodile Jackson All look. 00:25:07:01 - 00:25:21:03 Austin Spencer Like freaks. If you just go in public, someone's gonna ask you what you do, and then you say, I make tattoos and you check out this one I have, and you go, that one kind of sucks. I could do a better one. And boom, you got a new client?
Yeah, just like that. 00:25:21:05 - 00:25:35:23 Lettie Lynch Yeah. And I feel like, like even just when you're tattooing, like, building a rapport and, like, a good relationship with your client is, like, huge, because then they're gonna leave your space and they're going to go tell their friends because their friends are going to be like, man, I really want to talk to you. I don't know where to go. 00:25:36:00 - 00:25:48:09 Lettie Lynch And they're gonna be like, dude, I have this fucking awesome artist who is like, so nice. And they make me feel so comfortable, and they're awesome and they're funny and whatever. And then they're going to come to you and they're going to tell all their friends about. 00:25:48:09 - 00:26:09:00 Austin Spencer It, because everyone wants to be friends with their tattoo, or you've never heard someone explain who their tattoo is without being like my friend blank, like they want to be your pal.
So just like, kind of be their pal a little. And there you go. Or you could just shoehorn that. Your a tattoo her into every conversation you have. 00:26:09:02 - 00:26:27:22 Austin Spencer It works like the ice cream yesterday. Yeah. There you go. And scooters at a restaurant.
Scooters. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I still make business cards. I don't know if people, you know, a lot of people do the sticker business card. Now to the same thing. Pre-sold media. Like we used to literally go to the coffee shop when I didn't have a tattoo.
00:26:27:23 - 00:26:44:21 Austin Spencer Make some fucking fliers, like you said, and I would make fliers and keep a giant stack of them and put them on every car in the parking lot of the shop while I wasn't tattooing. Oh that's vandalism. You can't do that. Yeah, I don't know. That's that's pretty. It is a consensual. You have to ask them if I see it. 00:26:44:21 - 00:26:52:10 Austin Spencer I'm like, fuck this guy here.
Fliers anymore. Now I'm like, yeah. I mean, that was in the early 2000. 00:26:52:15 - 00:26:54:06 Lettie Lynch Oh yeah. I think flier on car is bad. 00:26:54:07 - 00:26:55:09 Austin Spencer Don't do that. Don't you. 00:26:55:09 - 00:26:56:09 Lettie Lynch Can tape flier.
00:26:56:09 - 00:27:06:22 Austin Spencer On saying I did it 20 years ago. If I saw your flier I'd be like, did I park bad? And I'm like, no, dude has a QR code that goes to my bank. 00:27:07:00 - 00:27:26:10 Austin Spencer Have you all ever gotten the I don't know if y'all have ever served tables before, but I remember serving tables here in Texas and they would get the yes dude, you'd get they'd give churches or whatever. This was my experience. Churches would leave a fake $100 bill. It would look like $100 bill. That's why I hate God.
00:27:26:12 - 00:27:40:20 Austin Spencer I know that's fucked up, but we should make that our business cards and really fucking service. And that's why I hate tats. Just really ruin everything. That's so funny. Make fake quarters and glue them to the sidewalks. Yeah, yeah. 00:27:40:22 - 00:27:43:12 Lettie Lynch Times are tough right now. Can't be playing with people like that.
00:27:43:13 - 00:27:52:17 Austin Spencer Yeah. Well, shit. Yeah. Sounds like you just got to get out there and be personable. It turns out we're in a service. Yeah. Just be cool. Yeah.
It's not all social media. 00:27:52:19 - 00:27:54:22 Lettie Lynch Just don't suck as a person. 00:27:54:23 - 00:28:15:11 Austin Spencer Yeah, just. Yeah, honestly, like I live, I just try not to be a dick. Yeah. Sorry, I haven't noticed. I was like, oh, I think it also takes time. It takes time and you can't phone it in or like you can't.
It's it can't be artificial. If we're talking about like building up the clientele base or what was the question, what was the base? 00:28:15:12 - 00:28:34:20 Austin Spencer Yeah, just outside of social media and talking to people in, in public. And yeah, apparently we don't do fliers on cars anymore. No, not a thing. Any other ways? Joining the gym I've got. I have artists to join, like Dungeons and Dragons clubs or.
That's cool. Yeah. Terminology. My shop and and and then we like the shop will sponsor their nights and stuff. 00:28:34:20 - 00:28:55:17 Austin Spencer So just to help build community and community. Yeah. Community. I'm gonna say community you're doing.
Yeah. Yeah. My shop in LA, we would have magic nights at the shop, and that was like a nice way to, like, invite people in and have fun. There's like ten people. But friend Gina has Katan nights at her shop. That's a good tan. 00:28:55:20 - 00:29:16:03 Austin Spencer You're cool in my book. Damn, I don't know how to play some weird shit.
Dude, I, I had a yoga class in my shop before, like, I collaborated with my yoga studio. They came in, we did a pro, yeah, a collab. And then so we came in and hosted a a full on yoga class, hour long class in the morning, and then we did a yoga themed, tattoo flash sheet. 00:29:16:03 - 00:29:25:02 Austin Spencer So all the yoga people came and everything and, yeah, the chakras. Yeah, yeah, whatever. You know, you I don't. Yeah. 00:29:25:03 - 00:29:25:22 Lettie Lynch Down dog.
00:29:26:00 - 00:29:45:11 Austin Spencer Yeah. They all started. Y'all started Tattoo Fight Club. Y'all should actually start a tattoo fight club. We should. We fight. Y'all should fight in the shop. I love the idea.
Everyone does. Jujitsu getting hit and falling down. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got a lot of art of fighting. I guess this is one thing that I think about a lot to, 00:29:45:13 - 00:30:15:07 Austin Spencer Good people tend to really attract good people. How do you build relationships within your shop? I know it's all. You guys are all in private studios, right? Yeah.
Okay. So how did you fucking shit out here? Because we don't get along with people. Yeah, part. I mean, how about just partners in life? Like, I feel like I personally am experiencing the greatest time in my life because I chose the most amazing partner. 00:30:15:09 - 00:30:33:00 Austin Spencer Dragon. Yeah, I do by brag a lot about my wife.
And if you hear me out about it, that's really sweet. Yeah, she helps you. She's very nice, but, But anyway, like, do you have any advice for bringing in the, like, good, healthy people that help support you and or people that yell at you? Yeah. If someone's. 00:30:33:00 - 00:30:33:07 Lettie Lynch Blowing. 00:30:33:07 - 00:30:41:10 Jonathan Penchoff On your fire to blow it out, it's really easy to know. And if they're blowing on it to build it up, it's also easy to know.
So if someone's blowing, just pay attention to what they're doing. 00:30:41:11 - 00:30:43:17 Austin Spencer It's so much blowing. 00:30:43:19 - 00:30:50:06 Jonathan Penchoff If you're getting blown, just pay attention to if it's cool or bad. 00:30:50:08 - 00:30:52:10 Austin Spencer Is there a community for that and that? 00:30:52:14 - 00:30:56:23 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah, it's called fat life, baby. Let's go. 00:30:57:01 - 00:30:59:14 Austin Spencer Oh, that's the clip. 00:30:59:15 - 00:31:02:14 Jonathan Penchoff That's a clip you put on the internet right there, but.
00:31:02:16 - 00:31:22:02 Crocodile Jackson I don't. How do you choose? I don't fucking know. I don't know, honestly, I feel like I, I struggle with we were talking about this before. I'm like a golden retriever. I want everyone to like me really bad. But I've had to be more choosy lately. Just trying to trying to be more mindful of that.
How not to be a people pleaser with that. 00:31:22:04 - 00:31:30:04 Crocodile Jackson But yeah, you're right about the I think you can tell pretty quickly. I think I think finding out the signs that someone's. 00:31:30:06 - 00:31:31:02 Lettie Lynch Blowing a bad. 00:31:31:04 - 00:31:31:21 Crocodile Jackson Trying to blow me. 00:31:32:01 - 00:31:32:22 Jonathan Penchoff It's a bad blow. 00:31:33:01 - 00:31:33:21 Austin Spencer Blow me back. 00:31:34:02 - 00:31:35:00 Jonathan Penchoff Pretty obvious.
00:31:35:00 - 00:31:55:04 Austin Spencer Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it's easy as a tattoo or two over the years, you get in this circle where all of your the. If you let all the people in that think you're so fucking awesome all the time, it makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable when my clients are not, like, incredibly uncomfortable. But just over the years, you know, just having your clients think you're the greatest thing in the planet and it's awesome. 00:31:55:04 - 00:32:02:11 Austin Spencer And I'm super grateful for it. But if you surround yourself by all of those type of people all the time, it's fucking poison it. 00:32:02:13 - 00:32:08:07 Lettie Lynch I. I forget who told this to me.
I feel like it was probably Euless Blair, but he said it's kind of. 00:32:08:08 - 00:32:13:03 Jonathan Penchoff Weird advice. 00:32:13:04 - 00:32:37:07 Lettie Lynch No, no, he said, don't let your clients tell you how good you are. And I think about that a lot because they like, they're so sweet and they mean really well, but like, they don't really know what they're talking about. Also, sometimes and so like that, it's really easy to like let that feed your ego. And I think you have to be really, like critical about those compliments. 00:32:37:07 - 00:33:02:04 Lettie Lynch Like they feel nice for the time being but don't like let them go to your head basically. Yeah.
But as far as like choosing people, I have a pretty good radar for people, and I am pretty quick to be like, I don't know if I like that person just because sometimes I get a vibe and I can't tell if they're like, it feels like they the energy is bad and they're not really there to support me, if that makes sense. 00:33:02:06 - 00:33:25:18 Lettie Lynch But I feel like it just, like, gets easier to tell who is actually in your corner and who's not. And like, especially choosing, like, a partner. I feel like this job is hard because you like, especially if you travel a lot. There's, like, just partners that are not about it. And they're not. They're not about like, you spending so much time away from them. 00:33:25:20 - 00:33:36:12 Lettie Lynch But if it's like something that you're really passionate about, like tattooing and you really want to do it, it's important to you and the right people will support you, whether that's your friends or your partner, even if you're, like, distant sometimes.
00:33:36:14 - 00:33:43:21 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah. Rulers historically surrounded by sycophants don't last very long. Look at history. 00:33:43:23 - 00:33:45:20 Lettie Lynch I don't know what those words. 00:33:45:20 - 00:33:51:21 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah. Yeah. Me either. I was like a fan.
00:33:51:23 - 00:33:56:04 Crocodile Jackson How can you you. How. How do you tell if someone's blowing your back. 00:33:56:06 - 00:33:58:20 Jonathan Penchoff Yeah. Wow. 00:33:58:22 - 00:33:59:17 Austin Spencer Yeah. 00:33:59:19 - 00:34:15:02 Jonathan Penchoff You gotta subscribe to my only fans to find out. It's easy, man.
Like, if you if you do something in someone like, tells you like. Yeah, that's cool. And kind of shrugs it off as one thing. But if someone like your true friends are gonna tell you, like, legit what, like a real critique versus, like, trying to tear you down. 00:34:15:03 - 00:34:30:12 Jonathan Penchoff Like, if someone's just gonna tell you what they that they don't like a thing, that's shitty. If someone tells you why they don't like a thing, that's friendship, in my opinion. Like, you know, if. Yeah.
Like, it's a it's a art critique, but it's friendship. So it's if you give me a reason why you don't like a thing I did, that's cool. 00:34:30:12 - 00:34:34:08 Jonathan Penchoff But if you just say like, I don't like that, I'm like, well, fuck you, man, I don't like you. 00:34:34:14 - 00:34:34:22 Crocodile Jackson Yeah. 00:34:34:23 - 00:34:35:19 Jonathan Penchoff I don't want to tell you. 00:34:35:20 - 00:34:36:10 Crocodile Jackson There's also. 00:34:36:11 - 00:34:37:08 Jonathan Penchoff Like. 00:34:37:10 - 00:34:50:02 Crocodile Jackson Being open to criticism.
Like, if you're gonna ask for it or whatever. If you're gonna ask for any opinions, try to be as open as possible to it without it hurting your feelings. Yeah, because it will. 00:34:50:04 - 00:34:50:13 Austin Spencer Back to. 00:34:50:13 - 00:34:51:19 Jonathan Penchoff Our thick skin. 00:34:51:21 - 00:35:06:00 Austin Spencer Yeah, yeah, for sure. We talked about that too. Just like I feel like I learned all.
I fucking feel like I learned everything through tattooing. I've been in a tattoo community. I've been in the tattoo community for more than I've been alive. It's pretty wild. 00:35:06:01 - 00:35:06:08 Lettie Lynch How old. 00:35:06:08 - 00:35:31:19 Austin Spencer Are you? I'm fucking 40. I'm 46 this year.
I started doing in 2000 and then was watching my dad get tattooed as a kid, you know? And I just, I don't know, I was always attracted the characters and everything. Mind, body and soul. Man, we talked a little bit about yoga. Is there anything that you have done or attempted to do to take care of yourself and fucking get through and stay in tattooing, stay healthy. 00:35:31:21 - 00:35:33:15 Lettie Lynch Get a bunch of horses? 00:35:33:17 - 00:35:36:18 Jonathan Penchoff Oh, what the flip. That was my answer.
00:35:36:21 - 00:35:38:03 Austin Spencer Stealing his answers. 00:35:38:07 - 00:35:56:07 Jonathan Penchoff Legit. Maybe try hanging out with horses, I don't know. It's pretty fucking cool. Just do things that are not tattooing. Because I think that for me. I think, like, you know, generally when you ask someone what they do, the first thing they say is their job, which is like fucking wild to me because, like, you're a lot more than your job generally. 00:35:56:08 - 00:36:13:04 Jonathan Penchoff Like, tattooing is like the fourth most interesting thing about me, you know, like, there's a lot of shit that I think is way cooler.
So like, if someone asks me what I do, it's like I'm a golfer and I love history and I play golf. You know, I hang out with horses. I do play golf like a ton, though, so I could list that twice. 00:36:13:05 - 00:36:22:13 Jonathan Penchoff But yeah. So it's just like, have other interests outside of this and that will, like, propel your life in general to be happier. And then you're going to be happier at your job. Like, yeah. 00:36:22:15 - 00:36:24:10 Crocodile Jackson Yeah.
It can't always be about tattooing. 00:36:24:12 - 00:36:29:18 Austin Spencer Yeah, yeah. You do a lot of the heavy weights obviously, right? Yeah, yeah. 00:36:29:21 - 00:36:33:13 Crocodile Jackson This is a dig on me. I actually do work out. 00:36:33:14 - 00:36:35:17 Austin Spencer Okay. 00:36:35:19 - 00:36:36:17 Lettie Lynch Like, what have you got?
What, are. 00:36:36:17 - 00:36:37:21 Crocodile Jackson You squatting. 00:36:37:23 - 00:36:42:18 Austin Spencer Lattes over here telling us how to lift weights. I'm like, no, I don't I don't know how to do that. Yeah. 00:36:42:18 - 00:37:05:02 Crocodile Jackson You should. I mean, if this is about our body to, like, go work out or be active, whatever. Do do whatever.
Just don't sit still for forever. Because our job, if you're gonna tattoo, you're gonna sit still. Literally kind of in the same position for hours on end. It's gonna destroy your body eventually. Like, go stretch, stretch every day and try to be as active as possible outside of that. 00:37:05:03 - 00:37:12:21 Jonathan Penchoff One of my favorite sayings ever about that is you're more likely to break down from Russ than overuse. So just like. Big crew move, move, your body.
00:37:12:23 - 00:37:34:09 Lettie Lynch Moving is so important. I work out a lot, and I love weights. But I feel like for the mind stuff, it's really easy to, like, keep, like, always working in this job. Like, you go, you're, like, at work, you tattoo, you go home, you stare at the photo of the tattoo you did and, like, zoom in on it for like hours and pick it apart. 00:37:34:09 - 00:37:51:03 Lettie Lynch And then you're drawing and then you're thinking, when you are done drawing, you're like, thinking about your tattoo for tomorrow. And it's really easy to, like, not check out. And I think it's important to try to like be mindful of that. And like Jonathan said, have other interests outside of tattooing and like be a human for parts of your day at least.
00:37:51:03 - 00:38:01:15 Lettie Lynch And like give yourself a break from constantly thinking about tattooing because that will burn you out more than just working all the time, or like more than just doing the tattoos. 00:38:01:16 - 00:38:24:14 Crocodile Jackson You know, it's also not as interesting. Like if you can bring in whatever your interests are outside of tattooing that isn't more informed, like personable style than someone who's just copying flash all the time. There's nothing wrong with that, but it can influence a lot more. Like what if your big your big trad flash guy and you're like, horses? 00:38:24:16 - 00:38:30:11 Crocodile Jackson Those are really those aren't those. I don't know how you'd put those two together, but you could definitely.
00:38:30:13 - 00:38:30:15 Austin Spencer Yeah. 00:38:30:17 - 00:38:34:04 Lettie Lynch You just came up with a whole flashing. 00:38:34:06 - 00:38:35:03 Crocodile Jackson That might be what I am. 00:38:35:04 - 00:38:50:21 Jonathan Penchoff This sounds like kind of like a joke, but I actually mean it a lot. Like, one of the most important things I did was I made friends who weren't tattoos. Like, all of a sudden I didn't only operate on a tattoo or schedule. It was like, oh, some of my friends can't go eat dinner at 9:00 at night. 00:38:50:21 - 00:38:57:20 Jonathan Penchoff So like when I started doing that, it like, helped me prioritize, like being a human in the world outside of just tattooing.
00:38:57:22 - 00:39:15:21 Lettie Lynch Yeah, yeah. Half my friends don't give a fuck that I tattoo like, I'll. I'll be excited about something and I'll show it to them and be like, look at this thing I did. And they'll be like, yeah, that's cool. Anyway, what are we doing on Saturday? And I'm just like, damn. And so, like, they will humble you too, which is nice, but it also, like, kind of shows you like. 00:39:15:22 - 00:39:21:21 Lettie Lynch It's not it's like not that deep.
You know, we're not just tattoos. We're people. 00:39:21:23 - 00:39:22:22 Jonathan Penchoff Where crocodiles. 00:39:22:22 - 00:39:27:04 Lettie Lynch We're we're horses, we're crocodiles. We're sweaty. 00:39:27:06 - 00:39:29:20 Austin Spencer Dog walker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:39:29:22 - 00:39:31:21 Jonathan Penchoff Loser is the other one.
I'm just kidding. 00:39:32:00 - 00:39:39:20 Austin Spencer Loser. Yeah. My wife's been texting me pictures of dogs all week. I'm like, I know, I know, this is gonna happen. Or just. She wants me to get. 00:39:39:21 - 00:39:43:03 Jonathan Penchoff God.
You're about to be so much cooler. 00:39:43:05 - 00:39:46:10 Austin Spencer Hopefully. 00:39:46:12 - 00:39:59:14 Austin Spencer This is really awesome. I greatly appreciate you guys taking the time to sit down with us. Thanks, Squier and the team for helping me put all the tech stuff. I'm a one man show over here and this terrified the shit out of me. And I was, I think, croc dude, for taking your time to come down and hang with us. 00:39:59:16 - 00:40:02:01 Austin Spencer You guys were all.
It was so awesome to meet you. 00:40:02:06 - 00:40:04:22 Lettie Lynch Nice to meet you too. Love you bud. 00:40:05:00 - 00:40:06:15 Austin Spencer Thank you guys. You guys are awesome. 00:40:06:19 - 00:40:09:06 Lettie Lynch Yeah. Thank you. 00:40:09:07 - 00:40:10:05 Crocodile Jackson Thanks, guys.
